Straight Stairlifts

When considering the purchase of a straight stairlift, it is important to consider a number of points:-

  1. how wide is the staircase; and are the steps very steep?
  2. are there any impediments such as radiators, doors, etc which may get in the way of a stairlift?
  3. is there a conveniently located 13-amp socket to charge the batteries and power the stairlift?
  4. is the potential user tall or short; will they be able to operate the stairlift on their own?

We provide a free survey and an impartial advice service to assess the stairs and the potential stairlift user.  We always supply a written quotation.

We offer a range of stairlifts, using manufacturers such as Minivator, Stannah, Meditek and Thyssen, which enables us to find solutions to a wide variety of client needs.

A standard straight stairlift is mounted on the stairs (not on the wall) and can be installed on either side of the staircase; the user goes up and down sitting side-on to the stairs and the seat swivels to 90 degrees at the top, so that they can get off safely onto the landing.

There are a number of useful modifications available such as a powered swivel seat, manual or powered footplate lifters, an automatic powered hinge or sliding rail (which is necessary if, for instance, there is a front door immediately opposite the foot of the stairs) and minimal track intrusion over the top of the stairs. Adaptations such as child seats, full harnesses and clip or velcro seatbelts are also available.

All the stairlifts come with remote controls which means that carers, etc can operate the lift if the user is unable to do so; they also have rapid response safety sensors on the footplate that stop the stairlift immediately if it meets with an obstruction on the stairs – once removed the stairlift can continue on its journey.
