Through Floor Lifts

When considering the purchase of a through-floor lift, it is important to consider a number of points:-

  1. is it certain that a stairlift would not be appropriate?
  2. is there enough space in both the ground and first floor rooms to allow for the lift, with door open, to let a wheelchair user get in and out safely and comfortably?
  3. is the structure of the house strong enough?
  4. are there likely to be pipes, wires, light fittings or any other impediments in the ceiling area?
  5. will the potential user be able to operate the lift on their own?

We provide a free survey and an impartial advice service to assess the proposed site for the lift and the potential lift user.  We always supply a written quotation.

We offer a choice of lifts from Wessex, Terry and Minivator which usually enables us to find solutions to a wide variety of client needs.

A standard through-floor lift is sited against a wall which allows maximum space in front so that wheelchair users have sufficient turning space to get in and out of the lift as easily and safely as possible. This applies to both ground and first floor rooms.

There are a number of useful modifications available such as a powered door, telephone, remote control (which enables full lift operation from the wheelchair for greater independence) and illuminated internal controls.

All the lifts come with wall-mounted controls which means that carers, etc can operate the lift if the user is unable to do so; they also have an integral fire seal which is effective when the lift is parked on the upper floor and an audible alarm with battery back-up in case of an emergency. The emergency back-up systems for the lift itself will operate the door, light and alarm, and lower the lift gently to the ground in the event of a power failure.
